As a child in Maine my family frequently took trips to the coast. Mount Desert Island was our favorite at about an hour and a half from our house. We had picnics, went camping, explored the beach, and we always got ice cream on the way home. However, like most Maine families, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park were strictly summer activities. On a recent trip home I thought it would be an interesting experience to go in the winter. My younger sisters did not like this idea, “Do we have to go?” they asked. Secretly I also wondered if it would just be cold and lackluster.
The island was purely magical. Enjoy.
