With the majority of people today owning a smartphone or tablet, the sheer number of apps – the new-fangled, ever-connected programs that have exploded alongside the rise in mobile device uptake – has been bewildering to say the least. For travellers though, this glut of applications is great news; today there are all manner of incredibly useful applications out there for tech-enabled travellers to use to their benefit. So without further adieu, here are some of the best!

Trip Advisor

The gold standard in travel reviewing, Trip Advisor has reviews for hotels, restaurants and attractions for practically every country on Earth, all of these being written by regular travelers like you and I. Trip Advisor’s App is an utterly useful resource for any traveller, so make sure you use it to guide you in your reservations prior to leaving, or, if you’re more of a backpacking type, quickly log on whenever you enter a new city you’re wanting to stay in.

Ruby Fortune

We all need some down time whilst we’re out gallivanting around the world, a moment when we simply sit down, relax and enjoy a little entertainment away from the hustle and bustle outside. The solution is to download rubyfortune.com online, a gaming site that allows users to play, for free or for cash, online casino games such as poker and blackjack. If you’re visiting a gambling hub such as Vegas, Macau or Monte Carlo, make sure to get the app so that your skills aren’t too green when you eventually sit at the velvet tables!

Hopper

If you’re constantly getting short changed by airlines, think about downloading Hopper. The app predicts the best times to book flights by analyzing billions of daily airfares, notifying users when prices drop below the historical average. For flexible travellers it gets even better; by using the Hopper calendar, one can see when the cheapest days to fly are during a month.

Hipmunk

Bored with having to jump through an inordinate number of hoops when you make your travel plans? Hipmunk takes a lot of the tedium out of booking and planning, putting a powerful travel search engine together with innovative in-app booking in order to create an exceptionally useable travel app that will make you wonder how you ever lived without it!

PackPoint

PackPoint is a great little app that provides users with lists of items they will likely require during their trip. Pop in your destination, length of stay and purpose of visit and the app quickly generates a very on-point list of essential items.

Such a nice collection of apps here, Ana!

I wish I’d known about Hopper before we’d booked our big trip but appreciate you sharing, and will keep it for future reference. There’s so much talk these days about when and how to book the cheapest flights, and having an app like that is so valuable.

Trip Advisor is the best, huh? It’s so detailed and takes care of every gap that a person might find when traveling. My favorite part is the room tips section, where people will point you to specific quirks or the best sections of a hotel. Some of the reviews are pretty funny, too, and give me a laugh when I need one. Haha.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Ana! I look forward to reading more about your adventures!

    Take Care.
