Street Art, History, Architecture and Culture Walking Tour of Reykjavik – Iceland

  • Share

I just made it for Auður’s (from blog I Heart Reykjavik)  first group walking tour in Reykjavik! She took us inside the church, to a sculpture garden and all kinds of hidden spots. She shared a very interesting and funny mix of history, culture, personal stories and architecture! I learned all the best secret spots to eat and shop like a local on this tour. I loved the photos she brought to show what Reykjavik looked like back in the day as well as how people dressed. The highlight for me was all of the incredible street art! She even knew about a lot of the artists. We took a break at one point and  Auður surprised us with homemade donuts and chocolate milk. She taught us-or tried to teach us some Icelandic phrases. The neatest phrase she shared with us was “Þetta Reddast”. It basically means “It will work out”. Icelanders often don’t do things in a conventional way, run late and don’t adhere to particular rules. However when things need to happen they get what they need to done. They simply don’t worry about following a strict way of doing things. I am very similar myself in not worrying about following a protocol to do things, people have called me childish and I don’t really care. I’d rather enjoy life than worry about small things. Overall this tour was way worth it as an introduction to Reykjavik!

Thanks for sharing these great impressions of Reykjavik, Anna! Since I love all sorts of street art, it’s really nice to see that this city has so much to offer. This bit of art really adds a lot of character to Reykjavik and the motto of not worrying too much makes it sound like the perfect place to be. I definitely have to visit one day… 🙂
