Anna’s Travel Fitness

  • Share

Here are some of the things I do on my travels to stay healthy.

El Yunque Rainforest Inn

Food
  • I do not go out to eat often or eat fast food. I try to shop at local markets. If the grocery store is cheaper I shop there.
  • I eat an abundance of raw broccoli, celery, carrots, green beans and green peppers as snacks.
  • I enjoy raw almonds.
  • I rarely eat chips, cheese, bread, sugar, butter, etc.
  • I try to buy Organic when the prices are comparable.
  • I always carry healthy snacks so that when I get hungry I don’t spend money on overpriced food that is not healthy.
  • I drink a TON of water throughout the day. I have a water bottle and I carry a Steripen to sterilize water, so I do not have to constantly buy water.
  • I have been taking plant based vitamins every day. I take Biotin and probiotics. I also drink apple cider vinegar.
  • Occasionally I do make chocolate chip cookies, eat dark chocolate or have ice cream.
  • If I do “mess up”, I don’t beat myself up I just roll with it and keep eating healthy.
Breakfast: I make overnight oats with blueberries, raspberries, walnuts, coconut flakes and granola.
Lunch/Dinner: I bake vegetables and eat them with quinoa.
Seasoning: I often use garlic herb seasoning with no salt and I LOVE pesto!
Exercise
  • Pilates is my favorite form of exercise and works really well for me. The exercises are very targeted, incorporate yoga, and focus on breathing so you don’t have to do as many repetitions to get results. You can find videos on Youtube. I often do random exercise videos from Youtube.
  • I also go running when I am in a safe place to do so. Thus far I am a casual runner.
  • As I travel if the opportunity arises I bike, kayak, or swim. Just walking everywhere and carrying my heavy backpack helps me keep in shape, I also hike often. Sometimes I run bleachers, I also do squats and lunges.
  • Occasionally I go to a gym with a friend, or get a two week trial in a place that I am visiting. If so I do 20 minutes on the treadmill, elliptical, and bike.

Homework: I highly recommend seeing
the documentaries Food Matters and Food Inc.
and researching nutrition on your own.

Thank you for this post. It is informative. I have been meaning to try Pilates. I normally do Yoga or weights and this seems to be working so far. Your blog just reiterates that one doesn't need a gym membership to stay in shape. Eating right is the key and definitely a bit of working out helps. Thank you 🙂

I have enjoyed my first few shopping trips and usually buy organic milk and try other organics such as peanut butter. I will soon try new things such as biking, swimming, or spinning classes to find a niche in something I love doing. Great sharing Anna!

Hungry for change is another great "homework" documentary. Lots of great facts on nutrition. It actually inspired me recently to go Paleo.

I've done these Pilates exercises you have mentioned and it was super motivating and easy to do. Totally felt great afterwards! Your snack ideas are a great idea! I do actually love certain healthy things so why not snack on those instead of chips or fries right! Thanx crazyintherain!

    Raw broccoli!! Wow!!
When I travel I also carry snacks but most fruits. Eat organic food. Drinking water is a must…
However, when I come back to the reality (it means Europe)my diet gets messep up because it is too cold and hard to get out and do some exercise 🙁 I will try to focus more! Thanks!

It's always nice to see ideas how fitting in exercise when you travel. So often we think we can't because we are traveling and don't realize how there are opportunities all around us to stay in shape.

Yess thats is awesome, stoked you recommend those two documentaries. They are two of my favs. P.S it is hard to eat healthy on the road and regularly exercise but if you get yourself in a good habit then its easier than you think. Plus you will enjoy your travels AND life a lot more, cheers.

Nice list! I also love to use youtube as my guide when I’m not lugging around my usually too heavy backpack. Jillian Michaels has some pretty incredible cardio videos that can really get you in shape and quite fast. Thank you for sharing the foodie tips and the advice to check into what your putting in your body by suggesting the documentaries Food Matters and Food Inc (both of which I have seen).
