I am really excited to be nominated to enter the Explore the Elements photo contest by Dave and Deb of the travel blog The Planet D! I have admired their photography for a long time and I am honored that they chose me.
The Thomas Cook Explore the Elements photography Contest features four elements from nature: fire, earth, water and air. It was quite the task going through the past few years of my travel photos trying to narrow down the final four. There are so many good memories for me in my photos. Thanks to all of my friends who helped me narrow it down!
FIRE
I have always been fascinated with photographing sparklers, fire works and recently lava in Hawaii. I chose this image which I took from Brooklyn because to me it represent the immense energy I feel when I’m in New York City.
EARTH
This is “Cueva Ventana” or “Window Cave” in English. It’s a magical place in Puerto Rico, you step into a hole in between the roots of a giant Banyan tree and after a brief hike through some huge caves the earth opens up to reveal this stunning view.
WATER
As an avid traveler who has been on the road for nearly five years, seeing Iceland by helicopter was so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. I had just taken an eleven day road trip around the country and seeing the landscape from the air was an entirely new awe-inspiring experience.
AIR
I chose this photo of Naples, Florida because it has a surreal quality to it, as if you could step down the pier out into eternity. The thing I love the most about sunsets is that while they change constantly, each change of the clouds and light is glorious, even more magnificent than seconds before. It is a reminder to me to embrace change in my own life and see the beauty in every moment.

Contest Details:
Explore the Elements is a contest that invites bloggers to showcase the images they’ve captured on their travels. The challenge is to submit photos that capture the essence of each of the elements.
While it isn’t compulsory to submit an image for each of the four elements, you’ve got more chance of winning one of the prizes on offer if you do submit a photograph for each category. It’s also worth noting that to be in with a chance of winning the grand prize of a £5,000 travel fund, you’ll have to submit a photo for all four element categories.
