Hike to the Hot River Foiled by Sudden Blizzard – Hveragerði, Iceland

It was bitter cold so we bundled up from head to toe. Excited to rock our new Climashield hats by Kanfor, and jackets by Arc’teryx and Salence. Our goal was to climb Hengladalir Mountain to swim in the hot river on the other side. The beginning of our hike was uneventful, we even had a random dog who walked with us part of the way. Near the summit we came across two girls who were turning back down the mountain. I thought to myself that they just weren’t dressed warm enough. However, as we rounded the corner snow blew in our faces we such ferocity that we were forced to turn back. On the way down we spotted a different hot pool. Despited the cold we changed into our bathing suits and got in. The water was scalding! I have never been so hot and cold at the same time. The weather in Iceland makes everything an adventure!

    Hi Anna,
I just looked at your pictures from your Iceland-adventure and it looks so great! The landscape is breathtaking! 🙂
I am going to travel to Iceland in June with two of my friends and I wanted to ask, if you have any recommendations for us, where we definitely should go? We’re thinking about renting a car and drive all over Iceland..
I’d love to get some information from you, since you seem to had a wonderful time in Iceland!
    Anika
