Also known as the Queen City, Charlotte, North Carolina, is home to countless attractions and activities. Museum lovers won’t want to miss the Levine Museum of the New South, which explores post–Civil War history in the South, or hands-on science displays at Discovery Place. The Uptown district has the Mint Museum Uptown, along with some of the area’s tastiest restaurants.

If shopping is your thing, follow fellow shoppers to the South Park’s mall district or take a spin through the art displays in North Davidson. If you’re into sports, Charlotte is home to the NFL’s Panthers, the NBA’s Hornets, and the AHL’s Checkers. For outdoor enthusiasts, the U.S. National Whitewater Center is a nonprofit outdoor recreation and athletic training facility for whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain biking, and hiking. Theatre

Pack a picnic or grab takeout to watch planes take off and land at a spot off Old Dowd Road. Use Google Maps to navigate to 4355 Airport Overlook Drive. Watching planes flying in and out is surprisingly therapeutic.

Public Art

Charlotte’s Uptown neighborhood has some wonderful public art that’s worth spending a day checking out. Bring a friend and follow the Arts and Science Council’s downloadable podcast, map, or even scavenger hunt to guide you through Uptown’s most notable art pieces. There are over 100 works of art to see around the city, from sculptures to murals to light art.

Every Sunday night at Snug Harbor there’s a free karaoke night! It’s a fun way to close out the weekend.

A trip to Charlotte wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. It’s an incredible place to visit with your family. Even if you aren’t a fan of NASCAR, you’ll enjoy more than 50 high-tech interactive attractions.
