Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland

We set off on our ice climbing tour with Arctic Adventures grateful for the gorgeous weather! Marissa, Christine and I had no idea what to expect. We arrived at the Sólheimajökull glacier and were given our gear, crampons (spiked covers for our shoes to help grip the ice) and ice picks! Marissa and I wore boots that were not thick enough so the crampons were kind of uncomfortable. Our guides briefed us on safety and the importance of following them lest we tumble down a crevasse. They were also very knowledgable about the glacier and how it formed, they told us about it as we hiked-giving us a chance to take some photos. After an hour or so we made it to the wall we were to climb. I have done normal rock climbing before but ice climbing was a first for all of us. Marissa scaled the ice wall like a seasoned pro, as she is in amazing shape. Christine and I struggled to reach the top but as challenging as it was for us we both made it to the top! Honestly, I felt like the wall we did was easier than the rock climbing I have done. Our exuberant guides did an excellent job of cheering us on! Being on a glacier is a surreal experience and I would love to visit again.Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - IcelandBlue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - IcelandBlue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland Blue Ice Climbing Arctic Adventures on Sólheimajökull Glacier - Iceland

  1. Sand In My Suitcase says:

You did some serious vertical climbing there! We’ve done the “tourist lite” version in Alaska, climbing about on a glacier after landing by helicopter (as a shore excursion on an Alaska cruise) – lots of fun, but not as vertical as what you did.

[…] fortunate to visit Skógafoss a second time when the sun was shining as a stop on the way back from ice climbing with Arctic Adventures. It was a completely different experience, double rainbows and everything! […]

This looks awesome! Do you have to be 18 to do this?
